Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 4, 2026 · Effective: September 4, 2026
The short version. Claimek sends caption text from YouTube videos you watch to our server so the claims in it can be checked. There are no accounts, we do not record audio, we do not follow you around the web outside YouTube, and we do not sell your data. The details are below.

1. Who we are

Lugene G. Luistro ("Claimek", "we", "us") runs the Claimek browser extension and the server behind it. We are based in the Philippines. Under Republic Act No. 10173, the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (the "Data Privacy Act"), we are the personal information controller, which means we are the ones responsible for how your data is handled.

If you have any privacy question or request, you can reach our Data Protection Officer at lugene12@gmail.com.

2. What we collect and why

What we getWhat it is forWhy we are allowed to
Caption text Finding claims of fact and looking up what is known about them. Only caption text that looks like a complete, checkable statement is sent out of your browser. The rest never leaves. To run the service you asked for by installing the extension
Video link Sending the results back to the right tab and the right video. To run the service you asked for
IP address Limiting how many checks can be run from one connection each minute and each day, so the service stays up and is not abused. We do not use it to build a profile of you. Our legitimate interest in keeping the service running
Anonymous usage counts Basic totals only: which video, how much of it was checked, and how many claims were checked and flagged. Each record gets a random number that is not tied to you. Our legitimate interest in keeping the service running
Claims we have already checked Saving results so the same claim is not paid for and checked again for every viewer. Saved under a scrambled version of the claim text, with no record of who was watching. Our legitimate interest in keeping the service running

What we never take: your name, email address, or any password (Claimek has no accounts at all); audio or microphone input; camera input; what you browse outside YouTube video pages; your exact location.

3. Other companies we send data to, and where they are

To check a claim we have to send the claim text to two outside services. These may handle it on computers outside the Philippines, mainly in the United States:

  • A third-party AI provider, which picks out checkable claims from the caption text, and gives an automated assessment of claims that no fact-checking group has covered. Their model-training / data-sharing option is switched off on our account, so this text is never used to train their models.
  • Google Fact Check Tools, which looks up whether a fact-checking group has already rated the claim.

Under Section 21 of the Data Privacy Act we stay responsible for your data even after we send it to these companies. We send only what is needed to check the claim. Your identity is never sent with it, because we do not hold one.

4. Chrome Web Store — Limited Use disclosure

Claimek follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use rules. In plain terms: we use your data only to run the claim-checking feature you can see. We do not sell it. We do not use it for ads. We do not pass it on to anyone except as needed to run that feature, to follow the law, or if the business is ever sold, in which case the buyer must make the same promises.

5. How long we keep things

  • Caption text is used at the moment of checking and not kept as part of your record. [CONFIRM: server log retention period — see note to owner]
  • Claims and their results are kept so the same claim can be answered right away next time. These records are about claims, not about people.
  • Usage counts are kept as plain totals, to see how well the service is working.
  • Check limits are held in memory only and clear within 24 hours at most.

6. Your rights

Philippine law gives you the right to be told what is collected, to object to it, to see what we hold about you, to have wrong information fixed, to have your data deleted or blocked, to be paid for damages if the law is broken, and to get a copy of your data. Because Claimek has no accounts, almost nothing we hold can be traced back to you. Still, if you think we hold data about you, write to lugene12@gmail.com and we will answer within the time the National Privacy Commission (NPC) requires.

You can also file a complaint with the NPC at privacy.gov.ph.

7. Children

Claimek is not directed at children. [CONFIRM: minimum age statement — see note to owner]

8. Security

Data moving between the extension and our server is encrypted using HTTPS. Saved claims are stored under a scrambled version of the text rather than the text itself. Access to our live systems is limited. No system is perfectly safe. If there is ever a data breach we will tell the NPC and the people affected, as NPC Circular 16-03 requires.

9. Changes

Any change to this policy will be posted on this page with a new date at the top. Important changes will also be noted on the extension's Chrome Web Store page.
